This tool only produces a record you generate yourself for your own bookkeeping — it is not a statement issued by your employer, and we do not judge whether a given use of it fits your situation. Small business owners and independent contractors commonly keep itemized pay records for bookkeeping and accounting, and that is the only purpose this serves. Pay stubs are normally a statement your employer issues, so what this tool produces is a document you generated, not a government-issued form (such as W-2 or 1099) and not an employer attestation. Presenting it as a statement issued by your employer, to a lender, a landlord or an agency, is misrepresentation, and our terms forbid using this tool that way. A lender, landlord or agency checking income will ask for the version the payer issued, and a self-made document cannot substitute for it. Using one to misrepresent income — to a lender, landlord, employer or government agency — is fraud and may be a criminal offense.

Everything runs on your device while you build and preview: the form, the calculations, and the on-screen preview stay local, and nothing is sent to us until you choose to pay. Your entries are sent to our server once, when you choose to pay, so it can render and deliver your document; that copy is stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM, with the key held outside the database), and the route this policy guarantees is deletion on request — from the order-lookup page or by writing to support — with a scheduled cleanup job removing records once their retention window ends. Email is optional at checkout and is used only for your receipt. Payment is processed by Creem on their own hosted page, with Creem acting as merchant of record for your purchase, so we never receive or store your card number. We do not sell your data, and no analytics or tracking script runs on this site. The outside parties in this flow are Creem, which takes the payment on its own hosted page, our email provider, which sends the receipt and the order-recovery link you asked for, and our hosting and database providers.

For as long as the document is still on our servers, the page you land on after checkout can issue a fresh download link as many times as you need — every link is single-use and expires in about 15 minutes, which is why saving the file somewhere you can find it matters. If you closed that page and left an email at checkout, the order-lookup page will email you a one-time link back to your orders. Checked out anonymously and lost the tab? Contact support with the order number from your payment receipt and we will sort it out.

Because Paystubs delivers a digital document instantly upon payment, refunds are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If you experience a technical issue that prevents you from downloading your pay stub, contact our support team and we will work to resolve it. Refund requests must be made within 14 days of purchase and are subject to review. Please note that refunds are not available for documents that have been successfully downloaded — the full policy, including what happens to the stored data after a refund, is on our refund policy page.

An account is not part of this workflow. The builder is a page in your browser: the form, the arithmetic and the live preview run on your device, and nothing is created on our servers while you are still editing. An email is optional at checkout and has exactly two jobs: the receipt, and the order-lookup page that helps you find an order later. Leaving it blank is a normal choice. The trade-off of having no profile is that a document you did not save has to be recovered through support, so keep the order number.

The file is ready as soon as the document is created — there is no queue, no overnight batch, and no email carrying a link. Once the payment is confirmed you come back to a status page, and the link appears there, usually within seconds of returning. It is single-use and expires in about fifteen minutes, so save the file somewhere you can find it. The preview you build against is the same layout as the exported PDF, so nothing is added to the document after you press the button.

A contractor is usually paid against an invoice rather than through a payroll run, so the record that fits your books is the one you keep per payment: who paid, which period it covered, the amount, and what you fronted yourself. This builder produces that kind of single-period record, and nothing here withholds tax on anyone’s behalf, because nothing here is an employer. What comes out is a document you generated, not a form any agency issues or recognizes. The comparison of the three documents explains which record answers which question.

Neither, and the difference is about what each document covers rather than how tidy it looks. A W-2 summarises a calendar year of wages and withheld tax for one employment; a 1099-NEC reports what one business paid a contractor across a year. Both are annual filings, while a pay stub covers a single pay period and says nothing about the other months. What this tool produces is a period record you generated yourself, so it is closer to a page of your ledger than to either form. Keeping the two ideas apart is worth doing before the arithmetic, because a form and a record are checked in different places.

The template is fixed so the document stays readable; everything written into it is yours. You set the payer and payee lines, the address blocks, the pay period and the payment date, the hours or salary and the rate behind them, and as many earnings and deduction lines as the period needs — overtime as its own line, a benefit premium, a flat reimbursement. Gross, total deductions and net recalculate as you type, so the three totals cannot drift away from the lines above them. Two things are not editable: the layout itself, and a year-to-date band, which a single-period document has no history to build.

Two copies exist once you have the file: it on your device, and one encrypted record on our server, which is what made the document. That server copy is what lets an order be re-issued and gives a refund request something to refer to. The route this policy guarantees is deletion on request, from the order-lookup page or by writing to support, and a scheduled cleanup job removes records once their retention window ends. Card details never sit in that copy — payment is handled by Creem as merchant of record. We do not sell the entries or run third-party trackers against them.
